ABSTRACT

Five generation-selection from the year 2011 to 2014 based on breeding value (EBV) estimated by BLUP method was carried out at VIGOVA duck breeding farm to increase body weight (bw7) at 7 weeks of age to form a new meat-type V22 male line and egg number at 42 weeks of age (en42) to form a new meat-type V27 female line. Body weight at 7 weeks of age (with ad libitum feeding) of males and females of V22 line was 3,429.2 g and 3,271.2 g respectively. Egg number (eggs/female/42 laying weeks) of V27 line was 210.1. Egg number, egg weight, fertility and hatchability for set eggs of parent ducks produced from the combination of the lines V22, V12, V17 and V27 was 209.2-210.0 eggs, 89.3-90.7 g, 96.2-97.0% and 74.7-75.3% respectively. For the commercial ducks reared for 7 weeks of age survival rate, live weight at 7 weeks of age, feed conversion for 1 kg of weight gain, percentage of carcass, thigh-leg muscle and breast muscle were 98.0%, 3.215,7-3.233,1 g, 2.46-2.50 kg, 70.1%, 12.5% and 12.0% respectively.
